As a Digital Nomad like me, you would know that we love using smart devices and technology to run our businesses and to work from anywhere we like. We are a bunch of unique and creative technological breed that prefers to work remotely from foreign countries, provinces, coffee shops, public libraries, restaurants or co-working spaces rather than the usual boring conventional workplaces.

I was excited when I recently found out that a group of creatives created a shared-working space for other creatives to use and I knew I had to visit the place to see what made their co-working space unique from other shared-working spaces around Cape Town. I was warmly welcomed by Jannah Ruthven with a cold Drifter Gin and Tonic brewed just next door to their newly renovated building when I arrived. At that moment, I knew I had come to the right place!

Jannah explained that Kelvin Corner was a dream conceived two years ago by Film Technicians, Rusty Ruthven, and RobWeidner. After months of searching for an office space for their own company, Film Gear South Africa, they realised in order to find the kind of space they needed, they would have to create it themselves - The vibrant Kelvin Corner was born!

WHAT IS KELVIN CORNER?

It’s a flexible work space aimed towards creative entrepreneurs such as freelance creatives, designers, filmmakers, start-ups, content creators, artists, photographers, videographers, editors, writers, digital marketers, etc. They offer daily, monthly and yearly memberships for communal hot desks, private offices, film gear storage and workshop facilities. Kelvin Corner is equipped with high speed uncapped Wi-Fi, comfortable interiors and the inviting and flexible ground floor has an in-house coffee shop, restaurant and a bar.

Other in-house facilities such as their high-end editing suite, meeting room, workshop, creative studio, art gallery and event space can be booked on an hourly base. Photographic studio, podcast recording room and gear servicing lab are also on their cards.

Kelvin Corner is situated at the corner of Calvin Street in the vibrant area of Woodstock, Cape Town. As expected from the creatives, it's founders decided to replace “Ca” from Calvin with “Ke”. They wanted to bring in the word "Kelvin" as it relates to the colour temperature of light. Kelvin temperature influences the look and feel of a subject or place based on the type of light it is represented in. Cool right? - Like me, you might have thought maybe Kelvin was a name of one of the founders or the building itself.

Kelvin Corner is just a 5 minute walk from the popular Neighbourgoods Market at The Old Biscuit Mill making it an ideal spot for work, fun and market lifestyle, 10 minute drive to Cape Town CBD and 20 minute drive to Cape TownInternational Airport.

YOGA CLASS DROP IN

Kelvin Corner hosts daily yoga classes hosted by their in-house yogi master, Bianca Pugin.  Bianca and her team of mystical instructors host morning and afternoon classes in their beautiful and private 60 square meter small event space and sometimes on their rooftop patio for those to die for Cape Town sunset sessions.  

EVENT CATERING

Their in-house cafe also have a variety of catering options available to suit anyone’s needs. They serve quality coffee and gourmet waffles daily for breakfast from 7am - 8am and tasty sandwiches for lunch.
